To Buy or You Not to Buy A Car Navigation System

Several years ago a car navigation device would be considered a miracle. Now, GPS navigation system   are commercially manufactured and made in pocket size. Its price has also become very affordable so that more people can avail of it.

 

How does a car GPS navigation system work? Well, first of all it makes use of several GPS satellites already in orbit. It sends and receives signals. These signals give us precise latitude and longitude coordinates that pin points our exact location thus help us navigate through intricate global maps. Maps here on earth are already loaded in the car navigation device and using the signals from GPS satellites our exact location, direction where we are going, and the place we want to go are displayed in our car navigation device.

 

Specific usage of a car navigation device includes:
1. It shows you your destination and then plots your path from where you are to where you are going.

2. It shows you live traffic data on the roads you will be taking, the weather of your present location as well as your destination.

3. It can give your mileage and can record your expenses that you will find useful when preparing your tax payments.

4. It can provide you a sense of security and safety. You will feel secure knowing that no matter where you are your car navigation device can provide your exact location so you can never be lost.  In case, you made the wrong turn, you car navigation can guide you back in the right track.

 

With all the above benefits of a car GPS navigation system , it also has its limitations. For one, the signals travel by line of sight. The signals can pass through clouds, glass or plastic but it cannot go through solid objects like mountains, rock, or steel. When travelling through tunnels or business district with dense buildings you can lose its signal.

 

Your car GPS navigation system do not know about short cuts, traffic lights, recent rerouting, or occurring traffic changes. This means that you still need to use your brain and senses. There are many occurrences of people getting into traffic trouble: causing road mayhem or getting into accidents because of unquestioningly following their car navigation without giving thought to their actual situation.

 

Although, a car navigation brings many benefits, it still remain as a tool or device to make our lives easier and not an absolute answer to all our driving needs.
